Fish tacos can be a healthier alternative to beef tacos. You can make them using corn or flour tortillas, lettuce or coleslaw, pan-fried, broiled or deep fried fish or seafood.Enjoy the with or without salsa, cheese, guacamole or sliced avocado. Nutrition information assumes 2 6-inch flour tortillas, 1/2 cup of coleslaw and 2 oz. (precooked weight) broiled tilapia without additional salt. Seventy-five percent of the sodium is from the tortillas and coleslaw.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. (450 g) fish fillets (cod, tilapia, sole)
  • 8 flour tortillas (6" diameter) or corn tortillas
  • 4 cups (960 ml) Coleslaw, prepared or homemade or shredded lettuce
  • Optional Ingredients
  • Prepared or homemade salsa
  • Guacamole or sliced avocado
  • 4 oz. (115 g) cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese, shredded

Method of Preparation

Step 1

Broil, pan-fry or deep fry fish per above recipes.

Step 2

Wrap stacked tortillas in aluminum foil and place in a preheated 300°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes to warm and reduce cracking.

Step 3

Prepare tacos by placing 1/2 cup of coleslaw or lettuce along the center of each tortilla and top with fish or seafood. Top with salsa and cheese if desired. Serve immediately.
