One of the simplest ways to incorporate home cooked meals into your diet if you have little or no cooking experience or time to cook, is using a slow cooker also known by the trade name Crock Pot.

Slow Cooker Chuck Roast is an economical meal for 4 to 6 people. The main ingredients are a chuck roast, potatoes, carrots, and onion. Season with a salt, pepper, and a sprig of rosemary (optional) and you have a family meal for a fraction of the cost of dinning out and without additives and preservative in frozen meals.

To make cooking even simpler, you can add all ingredients to the slow cooker the night before, refrigerate, and have it cook your meal the next day while you are at work or doing other activities.

There are no worries about temperature settings, sticking, or burning. And, clean up is easy.

Cooking times will vary depending on the size of your roast. Allow at least 6 hours on high and 12 or more hours on low.

Complete your meal and add more fiber and nutrients by steaming or boiling frozen broccoli, roasting carrot, or both. Vegetables are low calorie side dishes that are nutrient power houses.

Slow Cooker Chuck Roast is gluten free and provides over 40 grams of protein per 500 calorie serving.
