Cooking perfect fried eggs can be challenging. Egg yolks are not uniform in size and egg white become runnier the older the egg.

This Fried Egg recipe will help you make fried eggs you can enjoy for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Cook’s Tip

Frying eggs longer than 3 to 4 minutes can cause a white film to form over all or part of the yolk. If you like your eggs sunny side up, uncover the skillet after 2 to 3 minutes and use a spatula or fork to carefully break the white so uncooked white contacts the hot skillet.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) butter or margarine
  • Salt and pepper to taste if desired

Method of Preparation

Step 1

Preheat a 10-inch (25cm) frying pan 5 minutes over low heat.

Step 2

Break eggs into one or two bowls for even cooking.

Step 3

Add butter or margarine to preheated pan. Butter should foam and subside in about 1 minute. If it does not the pan is not hot enough, but you can continue to Step 4.

Step 4

Add eggs, cover and cook 3 to 5 minutes or until whites are set and yolk is desired constancy (runny to firm). Adjust cooking time to your stove. Serve immediately.
