Cook’s Tips
Do not combine different types of meat like chicken and pork. Chicken and pork require different cooking times. Chicken breast meat will dry out when overcooked.
The actual amount of ribs or chicken pieces you can cook depends on the size of your slow cooker.
Test meat for tenderness after the minimum cooking time. Meat should easily fall off the bone or pull apart when using two forks or spoons.
Ingredients
- 2 to 4 lbs. (900 to 1800 g) chicken pieces, chicken breasts (boned or boneless), country style pork ribs, beef bibs, pork roast or beef roast
- 1 to 2 cups (480 ml) prepared or homemade BBQ sauce
Method of Preparation
Step 1
Place meat in a single layer in slow cooker. Baste with BBQ sauce, add second layer and baste with sauce, cover and set cooker for low or high depending on desired cooking time. Low takes 8 to 10 hours and high 4 to 6 hours. Check instruction manual for your slow cooker.
Step 2
Remove meat from cooker and rest about 5 minutes. Baste with BBQ sauce and serve.
Step 3
For pulled meat, use two forks to shred the meat. Add BBQ sauce and serve.
