Chobani Yogurt Recall
The word yogurt brings to mind a natural, wholesome food with many health benefits. It can aid digestion and regularity, can be low fat and low in calories making it a good choice for a quick breakfast or snack.
On September 5, 2013, yogurt contaminated with mold during manufacturing was added to the list of processed foods that can make you sick.
After being notified by consumers who became ill eating the contaminated yogurt, Chobani announced a recall of the contaminated products with lot code 16-012. The lot code is printed on the foil cover.
In addition to the lot code, the package may be bloated with the cover expanded like a balloon providing resistance when pressed.
You can see the difference compared to uncontaminated yogurt.
If you’ve purchased Chobani yogurt with lot code 16-012 you are instructed to discard the product and contact Chobani Customer Care for replacement or refund. Click here for their Customer Care page.
Any time you notice a swollen package or can, return it to the store where purchased or discard it. Do not assume cooking will kill all harmful bacteria.
The United States has one of the safest food supplies in the world. Incidents like this highlight not only the need for manufacturers to maintain the highest level of cleanliness at their facilities but also the safe handling of raw meat, fish poultry and perishable cooked and uncooked foods at home.
